Installing DNP 11-34T threaded freewheel

Image
I ordered the DNP 11-34T threaded freewheel from the official store of  Drift Maniac. It has a rating of over 99% which you need because Aliexpress is no longer on the side of buyers. Aliexpress accepts resolutions where the seller requests the item to be returned at the buyer's expenses. I read reviews of this item in Amazon.com and they are good. https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005001670160452.html Better order the tool if you have a shorter version because the shorter version of the freewheel remover does not allow spanners to grip its edges. The range of this freewheel is from 11-34T compared to Shimano Megarange that only manages 14-34T. Using the 11T as the highest gear made it hard to turn the rear wheel but downhill and ebike allows us to maximise our pedaling energy. I installed this freewheel using Shimano Tourney TX35 rear derailleur standard version despite my bicycle requiring a hookup mount. It means that I need a derailleur hanger which is supposed to be s

Installing the Universal Derailleur Hanger

Image
This is a Derailleur hanger. You can fit to any bicycle but takes up some space of the mounting screw, so aligning the rear wheel is difficult. I just install this hanger at the other side so that there is no need to align the rear wheel. You can buy ceaply here. https://shopee.com.my/product/300933345/6156900136?smtt=0.76935824-1632720379.9 Make sure the pointed edges of the derailleur and hanger, align with each other. You can slide the derailler pointed edge over the pointed edge of the derailleur if the fixing screw is not yet tight. Once the screw is tightened, the pointed edges lock each other so that the chain can be tensioned.

What Are the Cons of Riding a Bike?

Image
Disadvantages of Cycling Compared to Driving PAUL GOODMAN Riding a bike is fun, cheap, and eco-friendly, but like all modes of transportation, it comes with drawbacks as well. Piqsels What Are the Cons of Riding a Bike? As someone who has ridden a bike for many years, I am fully aware that cycling comes with a myriad of advantages over driving a car. For example, biking is good for your health, it's a relatively inexpensive mode of transport, and it's very environmentally friendly. However, in this article, I thought that it would be useful to look at some of the negatives of riding a bike, as those aren't often discussed. Cons include vulnerabilities when it comes to dangerous drivers and hazards in the road, as well as some of the limitations of a bicycle compared to a car. Listed below are the 10 main disadvantages of riding a bike compared to traveling in a car. Each is discussed in detail in the sections that follow. The 10 Main Downsides to Cycling Exposure to the Ele

Kinomap vs Rouvy

Image
https://www.androidrank.org/compare/kinomap_indoor_training_videos/rouvy_workouts/com.kinomap.training/eu.virtualtraining An interesing comparison based on Android market. The categories assigned to them are revealing. Kinomap  is listed under category  Health & Fitness . ROUVY Workouts  developed by  VirtualTraining s.r.o.  is listed under category  Sports . Because more people are interested in Health and Fitness, naturally more customers for Kinomap. Rouvy attracts sportsmen more but these people are more dedicated, which explained why reviewers in many articles quote Rouvy as a better product. These reviewers could be sponsored by Rouvy. Kinomap gives a lot of incentives to video uploaders, unlike Rouvy. Rouvy does not give incentives to uploaders so presumably, spends more marketing effort in the traditional ways, by sponsoring promoters or influencers.

Rouvy vs Real

Image
https://youtu.be/ujqdQ9BCsGQ Rouvy can be improved even more by giving options to adjust resistances based on temperature and altitude differences. Speed is lower by 1 mph from 10 mph, which is 10 %. The power difference is very small 9 watt out of 171 watt which is less than 5 %. Speed is the square root of power. It is best to adjust resistance so that power expenditure is the same. Speed differences can be adjusted by adjusting the drag of the simulated bicycle. I cannot find this setting in Rouvy.

Review of Video Based Rouvy Apps

Image
I started looking for an indoor cycling app because my real cycling was frequently interrupted by the almost daily rain. I was impressed by Youtube videos of GCN presenters doing their cycling at home in front of a TV of photorealictic videos. After listening to their comments, I was introduced to Zwift. These apps should need sensors or smart trainers. I only have a Zero Cycling Trainer that I bought a few years ago for my wife to train prior to our trip to Japan. It costed me Rm 600 with a huge discount at that time. What impressed me at that time was that the resistance is magnetic and it has many health tracking functions. It was so successful that she did not need to ride on a wheelchair that I brought along. In Seoul, I pushed her around the city for more than 20 km up even to the Seoul Tower, around a year before. To give information to the Zwift app, we need sensors to send data to it. On looking at the sensor requirements of Zwift, it only requires Power sensor or Speed sensor

Upgrading to external Bottom Bracket

The non-proprietpry ISO standard for bicycle bottom bracket is the threaded 1.37in internal diameter with 24T with square taperred integrated axle. Modern bicycles no longer use this standard prefering the external bearing types ehere the shaft is included with the crankset. You can upgrade your ISO bottom bracket to a cartridge type while keeping the square hole crankset. This is the cheapest option because not easy to overhaul the cup and cone bearings. My more than 10 year old Oscar Supercycle mountain bicycle has the cup and cone bearing, similar to my other Begasso Soldier folding full suspension bicycle. When I disassembled the crankset, I noticed the the axle is stiff and made noises. Afyer spraing the threads with anti-rust spray, WD40 overnight, I dismantled the crankset and treated rusted parts with antirust primer and finished with iron oxide black paint. I counted my crankset gear teeth as 48T, 38T and 24T. I was able to loosen the locking nut by using the set of bicycle to

Adjusting Rear Derailleur

Image
I ignored the requirements to readjust my Tourney RD TZ rear derailleur when I installed the Megarange Freewheel. Although it worked, the lowest gear, the 34T ring slipped when I used it to climb up a hill. The reason could be the B limit screw which determined the spacing between the Freewheel teeth and derailleur teeth. My B limit screw had problems. I need to bend the screw mounting by using a screw driver and hammer while not removing the derailleur. Also tightened the derailleur screw while adjusting the spacing. This is the reason we can mount the derailleur directly as shown by a Youtuber. I need to twist it to the maximum for it to provide some spacing for the 34T ring from the derailleur wheel. Higher than 34, may not be possible. I cannot follow the instructions in this derailleur adjustment because I cannot distinguish the out of alignment noises. The chain suddenly shift positions. I just use the change in position and add a half turn of the cable adjuster. The

BICYCLE GEARING RATIOS

Image
BICYCLE GEARING RATIOS Sample Calculations Using a Mountain Bicycle The table below uses a common data of 20 kg weight for the whole bicycle and luggage, and 60 kg weight for the cycler. The crank length is 170 mm, and the wheel diameter is for a 26 in wheel. Its circumference is calculated as 2.075 m. For the speed, the cadence is at 60 revolutions per minute, or 1 revolution per second. The "De for Zero Acc" is the inclination in degrees, when the rider is standing on the pedal. His weight provides the force to move the bicycle forward. This inclination is when the bicycle does not move forward or backward. This inclination provides some information on the ability of a gear ratio to allow a rider to climb up a hill.It gives you a more objective evaluation compared to just s subjective descriptiion such as "can climb up a hill". We do not even know how steep the hill is. The motivation to calculate these figures is to verify the effectiveness of the Shimano Megara

Spare Parts or Upgrade for Bicycles

Image
The brake caliper is upgraded with the cheapest which cost less than RM20 each. The discs cost less than RM15. The adapter, less than RM10. I made a mistake by initially planning to upgrade to 180 mm until I found that the 203 mm discs allow better braking performance and does not cost much more. Because I am stll waiting for a cheap 203mm front adapter, I upgraded the front with the new caliper and the 180 mm discs. The replacement calipers use larger pads and are compatible with the adapters. The original calipers are unfortunately too small. The PM screw spacing is less than 74 mm, when the adapters require 74 mm. I do not throw away the original parts. They become the spare parts. Strangely, they are not compatible with all the parts that are available for sale. This is another reason why we should upgrade instead of using original parts.  Original parts are too difficult to find. The 7-speed Threaded Freewheel is upgraded to the Shimano Megarange 14 - 34 T.

Hub Sizes

Old Frames and Forks/New Parts Over the last 40 years, bicycle drivetrains have improved immensely. Indexing has taken much of the guesswork out of shifting; integrated brake/shifters such as Campagnolo's Ergo and Shimano's STI have brought the ability to shift without removing a hand from the handlebars; lower gears help older riders get up the tough hills that didn't bother them when they were younger. Internal-gear hubs are available with more speeds. While drivetrains have improved, frames have not, and in many ways, they've changed for the worse! Older frames designed for touring or recreational riding are often co
